Spiderwick Chronicles
USA 2004
The Spiderwick Chronicles are 5 individual books in a set. Mark
narrates and voices volumes 3, 4, and 5 on cassette.
Every time we read something, we get a mental image of that voice
from the description of the character in the story. Well, I have to admit
that hearing Mark read these goes *way* beyond my imagination!! This is not to
say that I think he has little or no talent, rather, that my imagination is
too limited. I can't say that I have met many, or for that matter ANY of the
types of faeries, goblins, etc. that are the stars of these novels, so that
I would know what they would sound like. Mark must draw on a number of his
life experiences, the people he has known, as well as his prolific imagination
to voice them all. (Yes, even an old granny lady!)
Usually, this is not the type of fiction I would gladly sit down and curl up with, but I found them fun and very imaginative. After I finished reading
the third book, I got out the tape and listened while I read along with Mark. I read the fourth book, then listened again. I couldn't stop the tape from running until I was at the end of the book, even though I'd just read it!
To find these, I think you may have to order them through your localbookstore or purchase them used from someone/someplace. But don't ask me to sell-
I'm holding on to mine!
