The Night of the Headless Horseman

(1999)

Mark's Character: Van Ripper

credit:
Based on Washington Irving's classic tale.

Summary/review:
This 3D animated film is based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: nervous schoolteacher Ichabod Crane tries to win the heart of Lovely Katrina VanTassel. Unfortunately, the village bully, Brom Bones, has already been trying to woo her, but he is afraid of commitment. What he *can* do is tell a detailed story, about a soldier who lost his head in a battle nearby and roams the countryside in search of a new head. So is this merely a legend or the truth, when the teacher's horse is found without his rider?
Some who have seen this film say it is not as well done as the live action film of nearly the same name, starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. But they also admit that this animated version stays closer to Washington Irving's written classic.

**As a caution, some of the graveyard scenes *may* be too frightening for young children.**
