Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

USA 2001
Starring: Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes and Mark Hamill

Synopsys:
The fifth installment of Kevin Smith's cult "trilogy", "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" is an intentionally irreverent, raucous and vulgar final send-off for the pair of perennial potheads. Be aware that this movie, which is packed from beginning to end with explicit sexual references and rampant profanity, is rated R for good reason.

In this last episode, the doped-out duo, and inspiration for the "Bluntman and Cronic" graphic novel characters, learns that Miramax is filming a live action version of the comic book series without their permission. Rankled that they've been cut out of the big money and determined to save their questionable "reputations", the guys set out on a cross-country trek to Hollywood, intent on sabotaging the movie. Along the way they meet up with a myriad of offbeat characters. Eternally hapless, Jay and Silent Bob unwittingly become the patsies for a gang of female jewel thieves, rescue a precocious orangutan from a scientific research lab, and outsmart a bungling US Wildlife Marshall.

Once they reach Hollywood the comedic talents of Jason Mewes (Jay) and Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) really begin to shine through. Slapstick comedy and biting, witty repartee abound on the Miramax studio lot where director Smith continues to pay tongue-in-cheek homage to several well-known movies. The most obvious of these is, of course, Star Wars.

The guys end up on a sound stage, dressed as their one-dimensional alter egos Bluntman and Cronic, where they come face to face with the slightly deranged (and bizarrely costumed) fictional bad-boy Cock Knocker, played by our own Mark Hamill. Mark does an outstanding job of parodying three characters at once: himself, an over-the-top comic book criminal mastermind, and even Luke Skywalker. Once again, he shows off his ambidextrous talents, dueling against the easily confused heroes with a quasi-lightsaber deftly held in an incredibly oversized right hand. Finally he easily slips into the part of a panicky, petulant movie star when overzealous Jay takes his role as Cronic a bit too far. With Mark's epigrammatic performance, wild characterization and dead-on delivery Cock Knocker is quite possibly the highlight of the entire movie.

A host of stars file by in co-starring roles and cameos, including Will Ferrell, Ben Afflack, Matt Damon, George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, Chris Rock, Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Jon Stewart and Judd Nelson.
