Synopsys:
Amanda and Travis Child are a hot, brother-sister recording team. He's the brains behind the music; she's the brains behind the business. All they need is a record deal in Nashville. (That's Amanda's idea.) All they need is to live life in order to write and sing about it. (That's Travis' idea.) They've been asked to leave or "decided" to leave more than one town.

On their way to Nashville they meet the recording manager who has driven down to listen to their act and he sees it all: the act, the music, the girls falling for Travis, the jealous boyfriends who start trouble in the roadhouse/bar, the bar-room brawl, and the hasty retreat. Travis catches a passing bus headed for Garnett, Georgia, telling Amanda to drive the truck there and he'll meet her. Just outside of Garnett, Amanda's "fragrant" dog is taking a walk, and State Trooper Conrad (Mark) pulls over to investigate the pickup and it's driver. Being the gentleman he is, he escorts Amanda, (who admits she is 16 going on 42) into Garnett where they find Travis in an altercation with the local Sheriff. Knowing Travis will be at a hearing in the morning, Conrad - yes, that's his only name - allows Amanda to sleep, in her truck, outside of his cabin.

Conrad spends quite a bit of time around Amanda: sitting with her in court; suggesting to Amanda that Travis could work at the roadhouse for his community service; giving Andy Webb, the barkeep/owner a call and tipping him off Amanda might be on the way; keeping Amanda on track to get to Nashville, all the while cautioning her that Nashville *might* not be Travis' real desire; hearing Amanda herself sing a song or two that she has written. At the high point of the movie, Amanda is ready to go, Travis wants to stay, Conrad wants Amanda.

Kristy McNichol and Dennis Quaid play the brother-sister team and do most of their own singing. Mark is a wonderful State Trooper and looks pretty good in the uniform, too!
