The mind of an abused and neglected foster-kid, Eugene Banks (Mark), finally snaps after he reads a letter from his dying mother. This letter informs him that his father is the famous country-western singer Wes Collins (Jimmy Dean). Eugene burns with anger and resentment over the life he feels he should have had with his famous and wealthy father, so he goes gunning for the singer. During a shooting spree, he kills a policeman and an innocent bystander.
Two police officers (Don Johnson and Dean Foster) then start to track Eugene down, and discover clues in Eugene’s apartment that show a possible family connection to Wes Collins.
Eugene eventually finds and threatens Collins’ wife and young son, and kills their dog. He then tracks down Collins and confronts him with the letter, and wounds Collins with a knife. Strangely, Collins is reluctant to report these incidents to the police, but does tell them that Eugene is not his son.
Collins moves his frightened family to a remote Malibu retreat, but Eugene manages to find them there anyway. Luckily, the police are hot on his trail. They capture Eugene, but Collins tells them not to hurt Eugene. He denies again that Eugene is his son, but we are left wondering if that is really the truth…
