From early on in Mark's career, he has given time and talent to work with various charitable organisations. Not surprisingly, many of them are directly related to children or issues concerning them.

Doernbecher Children's Hospital
Mark was a guest at the Dark Horse Comic Con the second year it held an art auction to benefit the Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The con actually began with many of the guests, Mark included, visiting patients in the hospital. The halls reverberated with the sound of the Joker's maniacal laugh. Mark later gave a talk at the con, and an announcement was made that he was donating his appearance fee to the ongoing fundraising to build a new hospital.
When the new hospital opened, Mark again paid a visit, spending the day visiting with the young patients.
Children Helping Poor and Homeless People
Over the past few years, Mark and his family have become involved with Children Helping Poor and Homeless Children (www.chphp.com) This includes helping with the ongoing collection of items donated and participating in special fund-raisers, a celebrity mini golf tournament being one of them.
Respecting Mark's desire that no cards or gifts be sent him, in 1999, on behalf of the members, the IMHFC began a tradition of making a donation to CHPHP in honour of Mark's birthday each year.
End Hunger Network
Mark is one of a number of well-known celebrities working with the End Hunger Network to create projects and events to help motivate people to help end hunger. EHN helps provide funding for food banks.
Make A Wish
Mark has done a number of 'Meet and Greet' sessions for local Make A Wish Foundations throughout his career. One of the most memorable was in the Milwaukee area January 2000 celebrating the theatrical release of Walking Across Egypt. A nominal donation of $5.00 enabled a good number of fans to meet Mark, and have an instant photograph taken. A Saturday morning session at the Mayfair Theatre complex, and an afternoon session at a local Blockbuster Video enabled the Milwaukee branch to sponsor the wishes of two seriously ill children, along with their families, with a good start for a third child's. The afternoon session, scheduled to start at 2 pm, had fans lining up in sub-zero weather, from 8 am that morning.
